Two of moviedom's biggest stars today — Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard — star in Allied, a Second World War, spy-versus-spy story about dazzling surfaces and deception.

But there's beautiful — and then there's believable. And despite the star power, glossy look and interesting premise, Allied feels like a missed opportunity from director Robert Zemeckis and screenwriter Steven Knight.

Go for the clothes, the setting and the first half, but go now because this frothy story won't be waging any battles come Oscar season.
